She holds a B.A. in Theater from Smith College and M.F.A. in Film from Florida State University. Portman also attended the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Portman is an award winning Filmmaker, Playwright, and Screenwriter. Portman has directed seven short films and a feature. Her short film Falling South, has been programmed in over fifty film festivals and has won fourteen awards to date. Portman has directed multiple well-reviewed theater productions. Portman has written a stack of screenplays which have been winning awards and placing in national and international competitions. Portman has optioned several screenplays and has done work for hire in many genres. Lorraine is a Screenplay Development Consultant for LA based Samaco Films. Read more...

Producer Guy Lia will be our featured speaker for the August filmmakers mixer where he will speak on the realities of creating, connecting, pitching, selling, negotiating, and breaking through…or just plain BREAKING! About our speaker: Guy Lia has worked in the Entertainment industry in creative development, production, and visual effects for both feature film and television for more than 20 years. Guy proudly spent more than five of those years at Sony Pictures Television as a creative development executive working on such shows as Breaking Bad, Rules of Engagement, Damages, ‘Til Death, Joan Of Arcadia, Book Of Daniel and more. As a development & production executive Guy spent a number of years developing scripts with Mario Kassar (Carolco/MK Productions) and working on other feature films such as Dante’s Peak, For Love of the Game, Primary Colors, Mystery Alaska, and at one time his apartment became the production office for Napoleon Dynamite! Guy was also a marketing executive for the domestic and international digital marketing of entertainment and consumer brands such as Warner Brothers, NBC/Universal, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Blackberry/RIM and more.
